On July 14 2008 the European Commission gave its seal of approval to a web service which will give e-businesses across Europe certification for their practices in protecting their users' personal data. The European Privacy Seal - named EuroPriSe - is a program designed to attest to online services meeting all the European Union's regulations and laws when handling customers' data. In simple words, the seal guarantees that the online business or website the user chooses to visit/use will not store personal data, including IP addresses, for extended periods of time nor will it be able to monitor the behavior of the user in ways that break the EU regulations. It also assures that the personal data collected by the site from the user is kept secure.
